Discuss the Mandolin lesson: Man of Constant Sorrow

https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/man-of-constant-sorrow-mandolin

This is a very bluesy, Monroe-style break in the key of G that is going to get folks’ toes a tappin’. If you own a mandolin, this is one that you have to know how to play, because someone is gonna request it!

Hey Ben,
This song make me smile ever time I hear you play it at its regular speed.
I’m a beginner but I’m tackling this one.
My question is how many beats per minute is your “slow” video?

I think its around 75-80bpm but i could be wrong! :slightly_smiling_face:

If you’re ever curious about the bpm of a song, here’s a handy little tool I found.

In this case, the bpm is about 168, or 84 depending on how you like to count it.

This is fantastic stuff. Wish I had discovered it sooner! (I’m not getting any younger :-)). The break sounds great, but I’m wondering if there is material where I can learn the whole song – melody and lyrics (even if I’m not singing), and how the mandolin can accompany others who are likely playing lead, and then see where the break can fit into the “whole” of the song.

Great qiestopm @cdodeda and perhaps I should do a “pickalong” version of this song. Check out my others here: https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/filters/collections:pick-along

Will do - thanks BB!

I paid 10 $ for this lesson, but I am unable to store lesson offline via the button above.
There is just a new page appearing that says:
“Woah there, partner!
It looks like your browser doesn’t support this feature. You might consider upgrading to one of these browsers in order to take full advantage of this site.”

What’s wrong with this? Got any help?

Hi Klaus. - There have been problems with the download feature for years. You can still access your lesson by logging in online. I am sure @BanjoBen will address your other query when he reads this

Unfortunately that feature is beyond repair. Like Archie says, you can download the tabs and mp3’s to your device and stream the videos. If having offline access to the videos is required, please shoot us a message here and we’ll get you refunded, no problem: https://banjobenclark.com/contact
