Discuss the Mandolin lesson: Licks From Chord Shapes

https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/licks-from-chord-shapes-mandolin-intermediate

The longer you play, the more you’ll realize that everything on the mando is connected. This lesson is all about playing from a common chord position you already know, and finding some killer licks all around it!

Great lesson. I enjoy this lesson because you can put it directly to use in a song. Thanks for the song suggestion.

Wonderful lesson. I enjoyed it. @BanjoBen explains clearly; boils it down without dumbing down, and makes it easier to “eat our vegetables.”

Thanks for another practical, creative lesson, Ben! Sliding into or out of the blues notes adds a fun dimension. (Just a housekeeping issue… as of Sunday night 5/17 the tab files are hitting error codes instead of opening. Is that what you intended, or should we be able to open the tabs for these lick suggestions?)

Thanks! Hmmm, I’m able to open them on my end. It may be that you had the page open too long, at which case the links expire for security reasons. Please revisit/refresh the page and try again.

This is a GREAT lesson and let me tell you why. I’ve actually been in France for the last 10 days WITHOUT my mandolin. But that doesn’t stop me from getting on the sight and viewing a new lesson. You talk about eating your vegetables… I was forced to because I was not able to pause the video and start noodling on my mandolin. I really feel like I grasps the theory behind this concept now and I can’t wait to get back home and start putting it into practice. I would recommend not even having your mandolin around you when Ben is teaching theory. Makes it way easier (at least for me) to understand and put into practice. Thanks Ben!

That is super feedback, thank you!

This is a VERY helpful lesson! I feel like I am unlocking the mandolin more every time I play. Now I have a bunch of ways to add licks without trying to memorize or remember other licks. I really like that you connected the licks to the chords. Thank you!

I love this! I tried this exercise when I first started playing, when it was WAY out of my reach. Now, I can play them, and they are great strength exercises for my fingers. That three finger triad shape unlocks the fretboard everywhere. Looking forward to pulling one out at the next jam. Thanks, Ben.
