Discuss the Mandolin lesson: In the Sweet By-and-By

This is an extremely slick version of this classic gospel tune in the key of C. If I were to play a solo for this song on someone’s record, this is what I’d play. It’s not too fast, but advanced because of all the licks. Enjoy!

In the group I play in we do this song in G. I used to play the banjo in our group but desperately needed a mandolin player so I decided to learn the mandolin. Is this movable to another key? Or is there a closed position version in the works?

I figured it out! I forgot that I could just move everything down one string to get the key of G!

Sorry I missed your question!

No worries! I know you are a busy man. I guess I thought moving every note down a string would make it in the key of G but it made it into the key of F. I will continue in your lessons to try and figure out how to convert this to the key of G.

@dougfaiella
to transpose from C to G you would move UP 1 string :wink:
