Discuss the Mandolin lesson: Fisher's Hornpipe

This song supposedly originated in the late 1700’s, and is a popular folk, Celtic, bluegrass, and all-around party tune. If that doesn’t give you the urgin’ to learn it, well I reckon nothin’ will! Check out this version of one beautiful melody!

Great Lesson! After watching last weeks lesson on changing mandolin strings, it inspired me to dig my mando out of the closet and restring it. What next? Fishers Hornpipe of course!

Unless I am wrong, It seems this might be a good song to develop excellent finger skills across the D chord and would help for many other songs??? What say you out there in BanjoBen land???

I don’t have this one up to Ben-Speed… but I just enjoy playing it so much.

Great little tune! :+1:

Hi Ben…is your RH pinky touching the mandolin when you’re picking?

I think it’s brushing it there, yeah. I go back and forth on hand positions over time and depending on what I’m playing. Do what’s comfortable and creates the least tension!
