Discuss the Mandolin lesson: Exploring Backup- Ballads in A

https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/exploring-backup-ballads-in-a-mandolin

Lots of folks are familiar with the mandolin “chop,” but when it comes to playing slower songs, they’re a bit lost. This tab teaches a great backup crosspicking pattern in the key of A with four different transitions/licks to use between chords.

The 120 BPM download is actually the 80 BPM file.

Fixed, thank you!

Just found this lesson and lovin it!! Thanks!

I love this lesson. It opened up some excellent new concepts for me. Thank you. I’ve been trying to locate some songs that it would be compatible to but thus far no luck. I realize the actual lesson is only to help open up possibilities but having a couple of songs to explore with would be helpful. Ben, you’re a gift.

I love this lesson. I can’t remember the songs where it has fit, but I have found a good fit a few times.

Welcome to the forum, @rodmccomber!

Thanks for your kind words! Great question…there are a lot of hymns that this would work with, as well as songs like “When You Say Nothing At All” by Alison Krauss.
