Discuss the lesson: PickAlong: Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Come PickAlong with me! This is one of my favorite Christmas hymns. You may recognize this melody from other hymns, such as “Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners”. The melody itself is called “Hyfrydol”, a Welsh hymn tune composed by Rowland Prichard in 1830 that translates to “pleasant” or “cheerful”.

Very nice!
Is that guitar an older Martin 0000 or M? Very nice as well! All the instruments sound great!

Thank you! It’s a 1950 000-28 Brazilian. It is butter, can’t believe I have it.

Love this beautiful advent hymn “Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.” Amen

Hi @grizrev Kelly welcome back to @BanjoBen 's Forum

This is a PickAlong Lesson. NO TABs for any of the instruments in this one. The purpose of this lesson is for you to use your knowledge to try and find the melody notes on your instrument. If you know the pentatonic scale on your instrument you’ll find most of the notes fall within the scale. Any that are outside the scale are only a half or whole note away. christmas-bears-singing

As Archie said, the purpose of these PickAlongs is to get you listening and watching, and to attempt playing along with me using your ears and eyes. Give it a shot! Watch it over and over with instrument in hand, finding the melody. The last time through the song, where I play the melody with all the instruments, is the best place to learn to the basic melody.

I may also create some individual lessons for instruments for this song.

Thank you for your suggestions. I’ll give it a try! I’m still a struggling beginner. Your playing this old Advent hymn is lovely to hear.

Would love to get this one for our Church to learn. Would ti be possible to get tabs & tracks for this one? Loved it.

@davidsanderson6567 What kind of track are you looking for beyond what’s been included on the lesson page mp3’s?

I noticed your banjo was in drop C tuning. Really nice!
