Discuss the Guitar lesson: When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder- Guitar

When I created this guitar solo, I was influenced by both Kenny Smith’s style/phrasing, and a version recorded by General Store manager Jake Stogdill. Lots of syncopation, and lots of fun!

I really like all three solos! Nicely done.
The Santa Cruz sounds sweet as well. Very Tony-ish to my ear.

When I access the PDF tab for the guitar lesson the displayed tab is for the Banjo. How do I pull up the guitar tab? Is it not available?

Just replaced it, let me know if that works!

Yep, Thanks!

Yes, now it comes up. Thanks

The Verse tab shows the C chords at a full measure , but the orginal song has 1/2 measure for the C chords. So I guess u made it a full measure to made the piece folw better?

Well I guess half of the c chord measure could be considered in the key of G?

Howdy @patm0007! What do you mean the original song? Are you referring to the hymnal perhaps?

My chord progression is the same as the hymnal, but perhaps a different time signature which would affect the chord lengths in the measures, but not the chord order or relative length.

For instance, if you have a version that has C for a half measure, it will also have half the measures of every other chord.

Yep, you are right! Thank you for the explanation. The verse is a lot of fun learning! Haven’t worked on the chorus yet. Thanks again!

Some time ago you helped me create intros for leading worship using the old hymns.
I am using the first few measures of the verse and the last few measures of the chorus to create an intro for this song. This is really helpful and I hope you do more like this with the hymns.

You’re gonna love the video I release to youtube this weekend! It’s all about that and how I prepared to lead worship this last Sunday. It’ll go out in my Saturday morning new lesson email.

You’ll know Santa Cruz guitars are made in California! There are some good things that come out of California. Just sayin…
