Discuss the Guitar lesson: There Is a Fountain- Advanced

When tempos are fast, what do you do? I opt for simpler things to play, but that doesn’t mean they have to SOUND simple. This lesson is a great example of how to play hot licks that don’t break your fingers!

I can discuss here but not showing up on the lesson page, for whatever reason.

Hi @BanjoBen so I have a quick three part question but you’ll have guessed it. It’s not about Geetar it’s about banjo backup. At 1.16 & 1.33 you play a roll over a closed chord up the neck. What’s the chord, what strings are you picking and are you fretting the 5th string with the thumb?

I am working on a backup arrangement and I hear this roll a lot and could never work out what’s going on.

He’s doing a forward roll over a G7 chord, with the thumb fretting the F note on the 5th string. Since he’s playing out of C position, this is equivalent to doing the same over a D7 chord out of G position.

Thank you @Michael_Mark

Hi @Michael_Mark I am just not finding it. Maybe I am placing my fingers wrongly or I am picking the wrong strings.

Can you find the G position at the 15th fret? Play only the first 3 strings of that chord. Now put your thumb over on the 15th fret of the 5th string and do a forward roll.
