Discuss the Guitar lesson: Jesus Loves Me- Fingerstyle

You probably grew up singing this one like I did, and the words and truth in this song still ring true today like they always will! Someone requested I do a fingerstyle rendition of this tune a while back, and I’m excited to bring it to you. Most fingerstyle songs are intermediate-advanced, but I’ve built this one so beginners can try their hand at it, while more advanced players will still enjoy it!

Thank you for the beautiful arrangement. Hope you’ll be inspired to create more like it.

Thanks for your kind words! Let me know if you have requests.

Ben have you ever done any lessons on Earl Scruggs style finger Picking on guitar . Like jimmy brown etc.? Thanks. Steve

Howdy Steve! Not in particular, but I need to peel apart his style and teach on it!

Beulah Land would be beautiful arranged like this.

I’m trying to understand how there can be a doted note when there’s already 4 beats in the measure…for example, on the first measure of the Intro, the very first note is doted which I thought increased it’s duration by half again, but wouldn’t that make that measure last 1/2 a beat too long since there’s already 4 beats in that measure? Or does that doted note just mean you let it ring out that long while playing the next note over top of it? I see that in alot of these tabs, if someone could help me understand what I’m missing, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Great question! It would not make it last too long. We don’t count the beats in a measure by adding up all the notes in the measure on the various strings. If, however, you have more than 4 beats on a single string, then yes, it would make it too long.

Yes, precisely! I’m signaling how long I want the note to be held out, which is very important stylistically when playing fingerstyle guitar. And even then, it’s not exact, so don’t “fret” about it too much

These comments reminded me of this awesome arrangement. I haven’t played it in years, but it’s time to get it off the shelf. Thanks!
