When it comes to bluegrass rhythm, there’s so much to talk about. There are several key ingredients that set it apart from other rhythm recipes, so come join me in the kitchen! This session is a Cabin Camp guitar session from October '22 in Nashville!

Thanks! For as long as I’ve been guitaring, I still managed to learn something with this lesson. Also nice glimpse into the camp lessons environment.

Not a Geetar player but I found this lesson really interesting @BanjoBen

I have been spending lots of time practicing rhythm over the last 3 months on banjo and now for sure back to geetar. What great additions to my playing, thanks Ben.

Excellent strumming lesson I am using one of the complimentary Banjo Ben guitar picks. It seems a bit heavy for my gorilla strength. I am wondering what y’all prefer for bluegrass strumming. Light, medium or heavy. I will be buying an assortment and testing them myself but I wonder what other players prefer.

When I started playing the guitar, I used a light pick. When I found out about bluegrass, I saw that Steve Kaufman had a Dunlop Tortex .73(yellow), I didn’t have that one, so I played with the .88(green). I really enjoyed that one until I saw that the “best” picks are the Bluechips. I bought myself the TP48. My new favorite is the Bluechip, but I will still play with the .88 as well.
I found that favorite picks are different between different people. It’s always good to get an assortment, like you said, so you can find out what best fits you.

For bluegrass, I always reach for something over 1mm if possible. The Dunlop Primetones are great picks for a low price. I use a BlueChip TP60-1R for pretty much everything and normally use the rounded edge, though the best rhythm sound (I thought) that I’ve ever gotten from a pick was a BlueChip Kenny Smith.

Yep, I end up with some type of pick that ranges from the 40-55 Bluechip-type pick.
