This is a great lesson!

Great lesson! And the chart is great too. It would be awesome if there was a one page summary of this fantastic information toto along with it with the rules Caleb went over.

Thanks

Thank you Caleb for dispelling the capo mystery … think I got this correct ??

  1. Find the key of the song … G, D, A, whatever … usually the LAST note in the song
  2. Pick the “shape” you want to play in … G, D, A, whatever
  3. Select the string with that shape note as the open string note (picked in #2) … well except for C
  4. Count up the neck on that string (in the musical alphabet) to the key (root) note identified in #1
  5. Slap the Capo on the fret where you land in #4 … and PLAY

The process for determining where to place your capo seems more complicated than necessary, especially where the “key of C issue” is involved. Once you have determined the key being used count the number of half tones between the key shape you wish to use and the target key and place your capo on that fret. Works for all keys, no?
