Well, well, whale. Somebody needs to put a book on your head.

This strum pattern: base-down up, base-up down up works well in “Under the Double Eagle” measure 16. It’s a good substitute for that measure for speed building.

can you strum down starting the three strums up down up

You want to keep the downstrums on the downbeats for sure, perhaps that answers your question?
