Discuss the Banjo lesson: Worried Man Blues– Hammer-Ons

I will do just that and thank you, Archie!

@BobE Do you like the way it sounds when you play the open 2nd string there? If so, keep doing it! You never have to learn a break exactly as the tab shows - the tab is just showing one way to play it (although it’s most certainly a very good way to play it…). Welcome to the forum!

You’re totally fine to add that in! I do think it’s important that you’re able to “not play it” when you don’t want to. We want to be in control of what we’re doing.

Hello everyone, so I’m picking this song up pretty quick but I’m having trouble going from the G to the C without it either muting the notes or buzzing the notes. Are there any tricks for that transition or just the G, C, D7 work in the previous lesson? Maybe it is my hand placement so I wanted to know if there was anything else I should look at before going back to that lesson for a couple days. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Pluckin_Gunny Justin,

What you are describing is Beginner Blues. Your looking for faults as your learning and magnifying them out of proportion. Every beginner has trouble with buzzing and muting strings it’s all part of the learning process. Study Ben 's hand positions carefully, take things real slow, your goal for now is to play things cleanly and that can only be achieved with observation and careful positioning of your fingers. In time your brain will take control but for now you need to focus on what your hands are doing. As for tips and tricks, yes there are. I call them the three P’s Patience, Practice and Perseverance

What else can you do? Record and Post a video of your practice in the Video Swap area. You’ll need to upload the video to YouTube and post the link in the Video Swap area. @BanjoBen will review it and get back to you.

Yep, try to get a video showing your frethand at a good angle so I can see what’s going on. Thanks and keep at it! You’ll get it!

Yeah @BanjoBen, I think it has a lot to do where I’m sitting. I never take that into account when I’m frustrated with myself. Time to calm down, reevaluate what every aspect of playing and enjoy. I went back and worked on chord transitions and poof, fixed it.
