I’ve got the banjo blues, yes I do… I’ve got the banjo blues, you can TOO! In this lesson on improvising blues, we’ll put a simple dominant 7th chord shape to use—and you’ll see the huge amount of possibilities it opens up to explore. If you’ve ever felt out of place improvising on slower blues-style songs like I Am a Pilgrim or Foggy Mountain Special, this lesson’s for you!

This is a Brilliant lesson and compliments @BanjoBen 's Boogie Woogie Backup series of lessons he created 10 years ago. Which I encourage you all to check out.

If like me you love to play blues on the banjo you might also care to check out Heath Joyce at pickinlessons.com

I really struggle to improvise bluegrass on the banjo but I find it so easy to play the blues… Why is that?

Love the lesson. Thanks @Archie for the other links as well.

I would love to see a series of YouTube links where this approach is put to use. For example, Don Reno as Ben mentioned. I think Eddie Adcock did a lot out of this shape but in A. There’s Andrew Green in Virginia that has done some interesting things with boogie woogie. https://andrewgreenbanjo.com. Thus YouTube is not quite the same as seeing this approach in the middle of a bluegrass tune whether backup or lead break - but I love it! https://youtu.be/DU3EnbzFzdA?is=SwqKou4_jwkdo3oF
