Discuss the Banjo lesson: How to Find the Melody

https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/how-to-find-the-melody-banjo-intermediate

This lesson is part of a course under development teaching how to play by ear. It focuses on finding the melody to create solos. But rather than learn what MORE we should do, a good approach is to learn how to simplify melodies & the fretboard. This was recorded as part of the October 2024 Virtual Banjo Camp.

The ā€œAdd Ons and Moreā€ link repeats one of the previous videos.

Hi @swoody Steve. Thank you for the heads up. It has been noted and work is in hand to resolve this issue

You mentioned a resource page that had Little Cabin Home on the Hill. I cannot find the resource page nor the version of Little Cabin Home On The Hill. - Thanks.

Hi @khydinger Ken So I believe this lesson is part of a larger paid @BanjoBen ā€˜LIVE’ lesson. Student’s signing up to this paid lesson would have received an email with links to a resource package. @Michael_Mark can you confirm this?

Yes, this was part of a Virtual Cabin Camp, but the Little Cabin Home resources are right on the lesson page, under ā€œLesson Resourcesā€.

Wow, this lesson…Wow. Arichie, you long touted Ben as a great and complete teacher. While I nibbled at the site before I jumped in now with a year membership and am seeing what you were bragging on. This lesson gave a great process for learning by ear but it did more than that. It answered a ton of little questions like leading into and out of a note and Bluegrass Measures!!! that had driven me nuts trying to figure out why all the extra measures in F&S songs.
Also gentlemen. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions as I learn to use this site. Very excited about all this.
Best regards and Merry Christmas,
ken

Hi @khydinger Ken Glad you finally got round to signing up as a Gold Picker if you think this lesson is great just wait till you get into the core content, that’s gonna blow your mind for sure. No one and I mean NO ONE holds a candle to the kind of content @BanjoBen has here. Yes there are a lot of top pro banjo players out there that teach but none go into as much detailed explanation as Ben. If you ever get stuck just Hollier everyone here will help you navigate the site and Ben will always have your back when you need support.

Archie, Will looking forward to seeing you here. I can see how this system will work, Started with this tonight on nine pound hammer. the more I work at this system, the better I will get. Thanks for your help. - Ken

I am sure you will Ken, most folk find their feet after a few days. It 's the initial shock of all the amazing content and where to begin. I always encourage newcomers (even advance level students) to the site to work through the Beginners Learning track at their own pace to familiarise themselves with Ben’s teaching style and learn the fundamentals. The beginners section has lots of little nuggets that help you further on in the Intermediate & Advanced sections. If you haven’t already, get yourself a copy of TEFView it’s FREE it will speed your learning progress with Ben’s TAB TEF Files
