Melodic banjo can be tricky for a lot of folks, but there’s no need to fear! We’ll take the old standard “Golden Slippers” and use it to learn the fundamentals of melodic banjo—finding note options on different strings, playing scales melodic-style, and ultimately moving towards a higher level of fretboard freedom. Let’s get you started on your melodic journey!

very nice lesson, I’ve been trying to understand melodics more. After the lonesome road blues melodic solo, I’ve been more interested in them. This is a huge help. Thanks!

Thank you, Ben! I too love to hear players alternate between Scruggs and melodic. Have you done a lesson on melodic accompaniment? I would really value learning some melodic positions and pattens for a variety of chords (beginning with G, C, D, I suppose), which I could use as a substitute for Scruggs patterns. Thanks for all you do!
