Discuss the Banjo lesson: Dixie Doodle

I’ve had many requests to teach the song “Dixie”, but I thought it would be cool to also incorporate a little “Yankee Doodle Dandy” in there as well! The intro and outro of this tune uses some great harmonic techniques to get the “Yankee Doodle” sound, mixed with a killer melodic rendition of the southern anthem. Enjoy this unique arrangement of some American classics!

do you just not include the introductory bum ba da baa like you have on the youtube video and that whole clip about not alienating yankee friends and if so why not?

I trimmed a lot of them down to make it easier for folks to hear what I’m going to teach them. Don’t worry, though…I’m adding the quips back in on my newer lessons

I love this arrangement so much! So fun to learn and play! Thank you Ben!
I was really hoping for a backing track for this lesson. That would have been a great one to ply along with.

I used the TEF TAB file and TablEdit to play along with.
Like nearly every TEF TAB file @BanjoBen creates he includes a Guitar Backup TAB. I wish he would also include banjo backup but I respect and understand the amount of work involved. I guess when he created this lesson he just didn’t have time.

Hi Ben, Hope you are well. I just learned this song and wondered if you have a banjo less backing track for ‘Dixie Doodle’?

Thanks,

Ned
