Three fingers, five strings, and one click…what can go wrong? Grab a metronome and let’s make some time!

Ben - As a beginner I most appreciated the suggested practice exercises. As I am learning the various rolls the idea of slowly stepping up the speed will help me better develop picking speed and provide a good measure of where I stand. So - thanks.

On a separate topic. I noticed you were fighting keeping the banjo in the proper position. I’m thinking about getting a strap, so were you fighting it because you were seated, was it the strap design, or perhaps how you had the strap attached?

Hi @BanjoBen Great revision lesson. As students we focus a lot on learning solo and it’s good to be reminded about how we master timing.

I remember when I was a beginner many on the BHO were dismissive about learning tunes using an 8th note roll pattern. Insisting that students should be playing in cut time. This to me was an impossible task not only because you had to read 16th note TABs and play 32nd & 64th slides, pull offs and hammer-ons.

Throw some triplets into the mix was just mind boggling.

Whilst I have no desire to play in cut time perhaps this is a topic you may care to discuss on some future lesson.

It was because of the position I have to be in to teach on that stool and reach the stands on either side. Normally I sit more upright and the strap is tighter keeping the banjo from sliding.
