These Pickalong lessons are GREAT! I learned so much in this 2:35 video.

  • It’s a slow tune making it easy to follow and hear everything

  • It’s a great example of proper vamping technique

  • It explains when and why we vamp

  • It’s a great example of rolling backup both up and down the neck

  • It explains when, why and where we use rolling backup

  • It’s a great example of playing a simple melody and adding rolls to create a break

Ben, you hit it out of the park with the Pickalong lesson idea!

Thanks

I have to echo Kevin1’s comments. I am a new Gold Pick member. This Banjo POV Pickalong series is fantastic. The comments in the video that explain what you are doing and why you are doing it while the tune is playing is the best backup banjo lesson I could ever receive. Getting instruction outside of a tune is one thing but seeing the suggestions while the tune is playing is a whole other level of instruction that really sinks in. I hope you continue these whether it is Christmas tunes or well-known standards.
