Every lick has variations that can apply in multiple ways…that’s what my Pick-a-Lick series is all about! Let’s take the famous Foggy Mountain Special lick and see what all we can discover!

@BanjoBen Thanks Banjo Ben. I’ve been wanting to learn that lick from the “Foggy Mountain Special”

Excellent lesson Ben! I’m editing my comment to emphasize why I think that…I’ve found that when I tie the chords/notes/slides, etc together with the sounds, I learn it by sound 10x faster and it “stays” in the grey matter a lot longer. I call it converting the “tab” to “sound (especially melody)” and I never have to memorize the tab…(which is a danger zone for a train wreck)…and the more you do it, the more asymptotic the learning curve of “playing by sound”. I think this particular lesson is a great one to learn that technique, not for just the song but all tunes, especially with Earl’s syncopation!

Did not read that it was “Advanced” (unlike beginner/intermed me on Banjo) having a great time with it and it really gave me some good, “get outta that Rut”, I have been in enthusiasm. Maybe my guitar years helped with the fingering. IDK,keep ‘em coming and I will keep on pickin’… TY Ben

hey ben using the d position seems and feels very awkward. Why not use the c position at the end of this lick?
makes using the pinky easier
