Ben what is Russ doing at the 53 sec mark on Molly and the Tenbrooks? Looks like he’s fretting 1st and 2nd string at the 3rd fret. Is that a G chord and what roll is he doing? His back up is incredible. Maybe someday you could dissect his backup for us.

You got it, Mike! It’s a G7, which is a great transition chord to C, which is exactly when he used it.

Fretting the 2nd string at the 3rd fret makes a D, and fretting the 1st string at the 3rd fret makes an F, which is the flatted 7th of the G scale… a G7.

Without digging in to it, it sounds like it’s just a forward roll, then running that forward roll up to frets 8 and 10 on the 1st and 2nd strings.
