Crazy Instrument Repairs

My daughter Meli volunteered to change strings on a persons old fiddle that had not been played in about 40-years. We all laughed to see that someone decades ago, actually soldered- up the “A” string. It actually worked! Talk about desperation. I wonder if anyone else has run across a crazy repair like this? We re-strung the fiddle and it sounds great~!

I’ve tied several sting halves together when I was young but don’t believe I’ve seen one soldered before.

Just a hunch, but I suspect that one in the picture was tied before soldering. I kind of doubt it would hold that tension with solder alone.

Nice video on trigger. I hate to say it, but I think trigger was an early “relic” job. I started looking at historical pictures of Willie and his N20, and the wear seemed to appear all at once. Not that there’s a problem with relic-ing, but I was kind of bummed that the hole didn’t develop naturally.
