I need to buy a decent, but not 200 dollar good capo for my banjo. What recommendations do you all have from the Banjo Ben store for under 50 dollars?
Capo Recommendations?
For your budget I would get a Kat Eyes or Barry Collins. Banjo Ben unfortunately sells neither but they’re both similar to the quality of a $200 capo for a much more affordable price. If you’d rather order from Ben, I’ve always wanted to try the Dave Elliot capo as it looks to be a well built option.
I have a few capos. My favorite is my Shubb for $75.

That doesn’t meet your < $50 requirement, but it does everything the $230 Elliot capos do.
Paige makes one of a similar design for $35, but Jake at the General Store told me they don’t last. He talked me into the Shubb.
It’s quality built, and I like that it tightens evenly across all strings. Best thing is that you can adjust the pressure so you rarely have to retune those 4 strings.
The downside is that it’s only good on the 1st 4 frets. It won’t fit from the 5th fret up.
I’d go with this one for now, will get you going for sure and works great: https://store.banjobenclark.com/collections/capos/products/shubb-c5-banjo-mandolin-capo-for-flat-fretboard
The downside is that it won’t stay on your banjo when not in use, but no biggie. Once you get to where you’re playing out and about more, you can invest in one that will.
Dang! I shouldn’t post so early in the morning. I meant to follow up with the one Ben recommended and totally forgot by the time I reached the end of my post. I have that one too. Probably the best one in your budget. Also good because you can use it on more than 4 frets.
Thank you all. I ordered the shubb for now and when I’m ready for a larger investment I have some ideas as well!
I’m late but I’m with @Mark_Rocka, I really like the Shubb capo. It’s smooth and the spring actuated latch is robust and easy to use.
