Had a long day today with running errands and a doctor’s appointment. When I got home I didn’t feel like practicing, but I didn’t want to miss playing some banjo so I busted out the old Dean Sport Model Electric banjo and played some Rocky Top over a Jamtrainer backing track! Just enough to get the fingers moving and avoid missing a day of playing. Since everyone here has the same passion for the electric banjo as me, I thought I would share😃! I think I had the jam track a little loud. Should have turned up the volume on the banjo a little. I even used a couple of the down the neck waypoint positions from the recent lesson on part B. Anyway, here it is just for fun……
Can’t go without some kind of practice
I have always wondered if there were electric banjos. Apparently so.
Nice execution of Rocky Top.
Thanks! Of course nothing beats the regular banjo, but I love the electric banjo as an alternative. I got this one cheap as a fixer-upper on eBay. It had a bad pickup under the head and was missing brackets. My electrical engineer son replaced the pickup with a Gibson Humbucker. I put on new brackets and it is fun to play. I guess they can’t sell these new anymore because of a lawsuit from Gibson over the SG design. I also have a Goldtone EMB that actually has a better banjo sound.
Nice picking! I didn’t read your post before pressing play, and I recognized the song right away. Great job!
Thanks Mark. You might have noticed I’m keeping my picking hand closer to the bridge.
