Camp Bluegrass Canceled - other options?

I just got an email from South Plains College that they have cancelled Campus Bluegrass for this summer. I was really excited to go. I’ve been trying to learn on my own and I just want to get with some folks. I live in Texas so that was a good location for me.

What other camps or learning events for new players exist? Dang ol’ Covid :frowning:

Any folks here live in Houston or Southeast Texas?

I can’t believe they canceled! Wow!

If you can hold tight I have plans to do a camp (or two?) in Kilgore, Tx, this fall. We’ll be announcing dates and registration in April.

Are you familiar with Timberline or Camp Tejas? Places like that would probably love some bookings after the summer is over and could provide a great environment for this kind of thing. I’m a Pineywoods man myself, but that’s kind of far from Kilgore.

Thanks! We’re actually buying a farm next to my mom, will be perfect and turnkey for camps. We can’t wait!

I’m in Beaumont, @Mark_Rocka and @JohnnyD both live in or around the houston area.
I’d love to hang out and play sometime

There are a couple of jams in and around Houston I’ve been meaning to check out. Maybe if I knew someone was expecting me to be there I might actually go.

Had a great jam last night with some of the pickers from BABA. They play a lot of Texas Swing and old country songs too. Really enjoyed it. Sadly, can’t do it every night!

Bay Area Bluegrass Assn historically has met in League City but the rent got raised so they started looking for another venue, then the lockdowns and the fear of getting sick stopped things for a while. Hopefully, that’ll change soon.

Next month, the Bluegrass Heritage Festival is happening in Dallas (April 22-25)! Then there’s Salmon Lake Park’s Gospel Festival - It’s gonna be great (May 27-30).

Was it just a spur of the moment thing, Johnny? I went to BABA once. Tons of talent there. I didn’t feel worthy to sit in anywhere.

There’s some truth there!
I was told they took me on as a “project”.
I’m grateful!!
