Anybody here on the forum ever have a chance to meet Byron? Sad to hear of his passing
Byron Berline passes
Hi Timothy, No I never had that honour. A sad loss for the Bluegrass Community. I do believe Alan Munde and Byron were close friends. Alan talks about him often on his DVD’s and credits Byron for inspiring him to write a Banjo Arrangement for Lime Rock as can be heard on this recording.
sad to hear. I enjoyed much of his music. May he RIP.
I never saw him live but I’ve heard many people speak very highly of him. I’ve listened to lots of his fiddle playing on albums.
Some of Byron’s coolest fiddling, IMO:
I guess it was in 2017 Byron Berline taught fiddle at Swannanoa. Sarah took his class and I got a chance to talk to him a couple times. The instructor concerts were epic!
While sitting back stage at a festival I was performing at in Mole Lake Wisconsin, a couple guys sat down w/me and we visited some…turned out to be Mr. Berline & Mr. Hicks…
That’s cool! I probably would’ve fainted.
It was a while before I recognized either of them…I just got quieter…haha
I never met him, but got an earful of his playing from listening to Hickman’s album Don’t Mean Maybe.
Here is a musicians perspective on his passing.
