Brand new strings sounding dead/Cracked bridge pins

Did you find a remedy? Was it pins or nut slot or fret stability? I was looking for Tusk pins review and this thread came up.

I found that my problem was basically that I can’t use uncoated strings without killing them dead in a few days. I use nothing but Elixir Nanowebs now; those have served me very well and stay bright for a much longer time. I did replace my bridge pins, though those cracked after a while too 
BUT they look awesome and the cracks don’t affect functionality for me, so I don’t regret it.
