Blowing off Steam

This video popped up on my YouTube Channel today. It takes me back to when I was a young lad. My Dad who was a Merchant Seaman during WWII worked as a Marine Engineer on steam powered freighters and fishing trawlers perhaps one of the most dangerous jobs at that time. He left the sea when I was about six or seven years old and went on to become a Steam Roller / Traction Engine Driver. If he was working close to our house he would roll up at lunch time with the big Atlas Steam Engine blowing off the whistle and all the kids from the neighbouring houses and streets would come running just to get a ride on the trailer. I was of course allowed on the footplate to help stoke the fire.

Watch the video till the end for some fun with the local police.
