I’m trying to do a blend of both. Turning out to be a tall order, but so far it seems to be working out.
Beta testers needed / Play with my app! It's fun!

On a PC, Chrome browser. No bugs encountered!
Looking at Liberty… as saved, it is in the key D playing a C shape capo 2 (that all makes sense). Without looking beyond the main interface with that song open, I don’t see an indication for capo 2. So I am hearing key of D but seeing chords for C. That’s ok, but it might be helpful to have an indication like you do in the library page (indicating a capo II). You could just add it to the title. That would work fine for short titles like this (“Liberty - Key of C capo II”).One slight tweak on the above. My preference for the verbiage would be something like Key of D, C shape, Capo 2 (which is key after capo/“shape of” saved key/capo position). That is the way I think and would say it. But honestly any indication of capo and key is enough for folks to get what they need.
I am not sure how you are doing the swing logic, but a swing setting from “off” to “full swing” and any point in between would be cool, That said, it may be more confusing. This is not a high priority and it may be better as is.
Again, great job on this! I WILL be using this as is. It is perfect for practicing.
Thanks!
Mike
I bet there is a way, but I am missing it. How does one reset to the count-in on a song (without re-loading the song)?
If a song is playing and you click or tap anywhere on the screen, you should see a bar at the bottom of the page to Resume, Restart, and Stop. Restart will give you another count in and Stop will allow you to press the Play button again when you’re ready.
Also, refresh your page. Your mod requests are live.
Oh that big button that says “Restart”?

Thanks!
FWIW, I was trying select the first measure (clicking/dbl ckicking) and the play again. You may want to have it check for first measure, and if true have it repeat the count in according to the count in settings.
Along those lines, one other thing to consider is to have it resume at the manually selected measure.
Totally different note, you may want to scroll to top (can use the CSS rule scroll-behavior: smooth for a more special effect-y transition) after page load. The page is longer than default height, so it ends up at the bottom of the page after loading (which is normal).
So many great additions to the app today. Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions!
I’ve been struggling with a new time signature… 6/8 times. These are, indeed, difficult times… at least when it comes to getting the computer to do what I want.
Can someone play with it and tell me if it’s even close? I don’t know that I even know any 6/8 time songs.
It’s close

The EMphasis is 1 and 4. To me it is felt as a measure of 2 triplets. It also typically has a slight swing. It’s used a bunch in worship. Here’s an example from worship:

Thanks Mike! I’ll dive in to these in n the morning.
I’ve been avoiding adding 6/8 because I knew it’d be a bear. I spent hours on this tonight and this was the best I could come up with. Now that you gave me examples, I’ll study them and see if I can improve things.
Looking forward to tomorrow!
Mike, that Irish Washer Woman was EXACTLY what I needed! Check me on it, but I think I got it dialed in.
That was a LOT of work. I basically had to build each beat by hand. There was nothing automated about it. I may change my mind in the future, but I think I might be able to get away with using the same samples for 6/8 time after hearing this. If you want to check it, build a quick song of Irish Washer Woman and check it.
D D D D Em Em Em A
D D D D Em A D D
Also a ton of new improvements since last I posted.
Just when I thought I had it, I added alternate root notes to Irish Washerwoman and it screwed everything up! 6/8 is a beast!
I think I got it now, though. Please keep me posted.
Edit… as I was entering song data, I ran across “Foxhunter’s Jig” that is apparently in 9/8 time. I just said “NNNNNOOOOPPPE!” and moved on. Apparently this won’t be an app for every musician.
Ha!!! “Come on! What about 5/8?!?!”

Just kidding of course. Complex time sigs are for a later iteration if ever. I think if someone wants something in 9, they can do it in 3. 6/8 is a good addition as it is felt as 2 beats per measure. Hmmm. Now that I say that, you could almost treat it as 2 beats per measure with triplet 1/8s. Not sure if that fits with the programming logic.
The 6/8 is usable now with one caveat… the count in isn’t 6/8. It is currently “1 chuck 2 chuck 3 chuck 4 chuck.” Change it to appropriately timed “1 chuck chuck 2 chuck chuck 3 chuck chuck 4 chuck. chuck” and you are in good shape. I would normally only count in “1 chuck chuck 2 chuck chuck”, but that may just be me.
The playing that is there works fine. Would it be easy to remove the last two strums of 6? I think that would allow people to feel it either swung or straight.
Mike, your guidance on this 6/8 stuff has been a Godsend. As a result of your helping me understand more about what’s going on “under the hood” of 6/8 time, I downloaded Ben’s slowest Irish Washerwoman backing track, split it up and put the guitar on the left channel and copied his 6/8 count in clicks multiple times in the right channel. That helped me SEE exactly what he was doing with a real guitar. Obviously it’s way more complex that this little app can handle, but I think I’m to the point now that it’s probably just a matter of preference on how it sounds.
I also updated the count in. See what you think.
Glad to help. It sounds good!
I am still blown away by this. Great job!
For those of you wanting pre-packaged songs, you now have 620 to choose from. I’m still going. You’ll notice that the song selection thins out around the letter K. I found a huge list of songs with chords, so I’m adding them in alphabetical order.
Have fun, and keep those suggestions coming!
Here’s the good news… I loaded it fresh to see your crazy big list of songs. Wow!
Something might have happened as I am no longer hearing anything after the count in. I haven’t dug in to see if it was something on my end. I am using Chrome on a PC.
Try it now. You just happened to load it up during the 5 minutes I was making a major update.
The song list and sample files are no longer embedded in the HTML file. They’re in separate folders, so the home page should load faster now, especially on mobile devices.
Been a busy morning. On top of that MAJOR update, Ben also sent me 8 more bass samples. The samples were only going from C to C. Now they go all the way down to the low E. Then I had to figure out a way to get the app to alternate the notes between low E and E at the next octave. I think I got it dialed in. Sounds better, too.
You should now see 654 songs.
All fixed
Wow! This looks very useful. Tried a couple songs and it worked great!
