Howdy @BanjoBen,
I have been curious about your texas farm, what are the details?
I too am a Farmer, and love all things farm and ranch related.
How many acres do you have?
What kinds of crops?
What kind of stock, and how many head?
Are you able to sell products or is the market squeezing you out there?
I hope all is going good there, I would love to see it one day.
Ben's texas farm
In disclosing, I think Ben should include his “taxes form” too!
I have ~75 right around my house, most of that is hay pasture but I’ll end up farming a few of those acres for my family/neighbor needs. My little farm connects to the main farm where my mom lives–there a couple hundred acres there, about 30% is river bottom.
We grew up farming peas and watermelons, mainly. These days we cut hay and run some cows/horses. There isn’t any large scale farming going on. Being that this is the first year back on the farm, I’ll probably grow quite a bit of different stuff for my family. I tilled up a couple acres this last week and about to put in some onions.
We have several walking horses…those are my favorite. My girls have a Missouri Fox Trotter pony. I have a couple Watusi cross heifers just for the horns. There are a couple dozen various cows at my moms. I plan to “beef” up that operation. Things have been in decline since my dad died a decade ago and I haven’t been home.
There is a lot of demand here. I’m considering beginning a Christmas tree farm, as well.
As in for decorative purposes? Mounted to trucks and so on?
That sounds awsome! Thanks for sharing, I’d love to see it some day.
Yay!!!
Haha, I guess. Right now they’re just fun to look at in the pasture…they’re tame as dogs. One day they’ll make a pretty skull mount.
Come on out for a camp! The one day camp in March is gonna be a lot of fun. You can find some decent flights into KGGG which is only 15 minutes from my farm.
@BanjoBen, with the extra acreage, would you ever let folks boondock (I.e. camp without hookups), on your property during cabin camps? Just curious. That would probably cause more hassles than its worth. With that said, do you have any campsites nearby? Working on my rationale to Ellen why a Texas banjo camp is essential to our future happiness.
@JKL
Hey there!
When we went to TX cabin camp with the camper, we stayed at Fernbrook RV park in longview TX, it’s about 9/10 miles away from camp.

Annnd, it’s only 4 miles from an absolutely fantastic Mexican restaurant called T.Blanco’s also in Longview…
So… a Texas banjo camp is absolutely necessary in order to go to T Blanco’s restaurant; which will directly contribute to yalls future happiness !
Jeff - if this is something you go w the RV, holler at me, I can tell you of a good stopover campground that we hit on our way out there…
Thanks, @Simone! I’m going to the April camp in Nashville, but definitely plan on taking the camper someday to a Texas camp. So yes, any info would be appreciated. Let’s stay in touch—maybe get Doug Hendrix and Kelly to join us for another driveway jam session in the Spring.
Sounds great & will do
