Hello, I am getting banjo spikes installed on my banjo. I really need Frets 7 & 9 done. should I just go ahead and do 8 & 10? is there even a whole lot of songs in A# or C that far up the neck?

Bb is definitely a common key in bluegrass, and I like to have the spike at 8, but you can also tune the 5th string up or down a half step if you have the spikes at 7 and 9. Capoing for C is slightly less common; some pickers like to do it and others prefer to play in open C more.
I don’t see a big disadvantage to having them at 7, 8, 9, and 10. Some folks say your finger can hit the spike so they prefer to have fewer of them, but I’ve never had that happen to me with a well-installed spike.

My philosophy has always been that it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
