Banjo Players

Since this thread is titled Banjo Players, in the plural, I thought Iā€™d introduce another one. There are so many great ones we all know that could be discussed here and Mean Mary was a new one me and I really enjoyed exploring her music.

I stumbled on this guy on YouTube just recently and Iā€™ve been quite taken with him. Have yā€™all ever heard of Dave Hum? He was a busker in the UK and he has a unique sound that I really like. He has a couple of pretty good albums (I downloaded them from Amazon Music). A good mix of Bluegrass and Celtic. Here he is playing Nashville Blues.

Here is his YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcGxV6qGVoBGFm_wnDodK2A

Here is his website: http://davehum.com/home.html

And I found this article on him in the Banjo Newsletter: https://banjonews.com/2015-01/who_was_dave_hum.html

Hi @Maggie Dave Hum passed away in 2009, He was a very popular folk musician and street entertainer. Dave and his band the Huckleberries also did comedy.

Yep, sheā€™s way cool. I met her and her Brother Frank a few years back in Bodega Bay, Ca. Sat and chatted with them during one of their spectacular performancesā€¦ True to form, plays barefoot too. Not that that makes her any quicker, lol, idk. it might. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yeah, I only discovered him a couple months ago and really got into his music and realized just recently he had passed when I read that article in the newsletter. How sad.

Hard to see yes, but she showed me what she uses. These are the little speed picks.

I got the chance to try these out at camp. Funny thing is, my thumb didnā€™t move any speedier. Mustā€™ve been a faulty productā€¦

Yep, that must be it, faulty product. You should get a refund.

Do you give them a :+1: or a :-1:?

Yeah, Iā€™d give 'em a :+1:

I liked it better than the golden gates Iā€™ve always used, but I also had a very kind fellow picker buy me a blue chip during camp and I love that thing.

I love mine. (JD Crowe model) Blue chip picks are the real-deal.

Iā€™ve using a Blue Chip JD Crowe for about a year and itā€™s the best Iā€™ve tried. Sure was a great camp!

I purchased a Blue Chip at camp. It fit my thumb perfectly. I didnā€™t get to try it out until this afternoon. The sound is much better. It is longer than the pick I was using so it will take a few hours of picking to adjust.

Either that, or I wonder if a guy could just sand it down a bit to suit? Mine was a JD Crowe thumbpick which I believe is one of the shorter ones anyway. In my opinion, the blue chip thumbpicks really are a premium pick in terms of quality.

Hopefully that Blue Chip will help you not have to get your kerosene rags out

It was good to meet you at camp, Jeff!

I look forward to seeing a Video of your new Signature song ā€œI AM A PILGRIMā€ :star_struck:

@Deere_Crossing. Iā€™m a little better banjo picker than guitar. The banjo camp slots filled up so I went with guitar. The camp was great.
