Appalachian Trail
Was considering taking my son on a 7-10 day venture on the trail.
I “hiked and camped” in the military a lot. I don’t really care for it over a warm comfortable bed. But I’d sure go if he wants to go.
Oldest daughter is courting a young man that made it 3 weeks before calling it quits. He went out to get his head straight. I don’t know if it helped or not.
Complete it for a “right of passage.”…if anyone really cares or not.
I did a short stretch of the Pennine Way in Yorkshire England when I was in the Army. I couldn’t manage now. I’ve been told that along the Appellation Trail there are lots of music festivals and jam sessions worthy of a visit
Here is a movie I watched about the Appalachian Trail. Stars Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. After 20 minutes I was all in on this trip. At the end of the movie I was telling my wife I will never do that.
Have you been to the Smoky Mountains? Have you climbed to the top of Clingmans Dome? You might need that experience when making a decision.
Movie is rated R for language. I don’t remember it being that vulgar, but I probably just forgot what they said.
@Archie, I decided to watch a few minutes of this while finishing my lunch one day last week, and got hooked! I spread it over three different lunch sessions, and it had the unintentional effect of allowing me to ponder over a period of several days what was going on for the young man who made this video. Thanks for sharing!
I’m not a hiker, and haven’t done any serious hiking since being in the Boy Scouts in my youth. I don’t think I’d attempt anything like this, but it sure was interesting to join him from the relative comfort of my desk chair. Did get me thinking though…
