Last weekend I had the pleasure of jamming with some friends, most of them whom I’ve met since I helped teach a bluegrass jam class. A fiddle player hosts a monthly jam at his house and last weekend there were 6 or 7 of us. This coming Saturday I’m hosting what is likely to be known as a Hot Jam as we are doing it outside (under a tarp, at least) and we’ve had some hot weather in Wisconsin. Responses to my invites tell me we’ll have at least two, possibly 3 fiddler players, 2 banjos, 2 mandolins, 3 guitars, a guy who sits on a drum thing and keeps us on tempo (married to the banjo player) and a standup bass. My wife is not a fan of bluegrass and keeps saying she’ll be at a “local establishment” during the jam…but I think once she hears how well these people sound together she just might stay! Ah well, one can dream, anyway. I’ll send pics and try to get some video.
