This week the wife and I were in southeast Oklahoma. In reading some tourist info I picked up along the way, I discovered there is a banjo museum in Oklahoma City. A side trip up to OKC was not in the cards for me on this trip, but it looks pretty good. I plan on checking it out on my next trip. I hope that building can withstand a tornado, because they’ve got some nice banjos there.

Such a shame to see something that’s created to be played kept away from that in a “collection”
I agree Dave, they should send them over the pond to me to keep the well exercised.
True…but nice to have some examples saved for people to enjoy seeing and for the history of them. Having them set aside might inspire some to become pickers and grinners. Cuz you cant pick a banjo without grinning, at least once you get that hard lick down!
The Banjo Museum is in the news! I have got to get over there and check it out.

I visited the AMB last week. Other than just being in a building full of banjos, it was pretty cool to see so many rare banjo’s from folks personal collection. They had several pre-wars (before conversion to 5 string) so that was pretty cool. I also learned that there is a Banjo Players Directory. If you play the banjo, head over to banjoplayersdirectory.com and sign up. It’s free, unless you want to make a donation.
