Heya ya’ll. Long time Electric guitar player but just looking to get into an acoustic a bit. Seeing guitar Nut sizes in the inch and 3/4 size. I have pretty large fingers and wondering if the extra spacing would be a good thing on the nut. Wondering why some guitars have such a wide nut? Flat picking? More room is more comfortable? Love the sound of the Martin Guitars and noticed the Specs on the Neck Nut is often different in size. I am just looking for a “Geetar” to play some rock classics or maybe campfire style songs that I do not have to plug in. After many years of playing my Fender Jazzmaster I never gave it any thought until now and as a matter of fact I never even measured the Nut LOL. Any advice is appreciated.

A Guitar Nut over 1.697? What?
Yeah, the 1 3/4" nut size is very common with the dreadnought and other body shapes. I do prefer it, yes. But, I get adapted to the narrower 1 11/16" pretty quick.
Thank you so much Ben. Yea went and tried a few out. Def a different feel with the
1 3/4 extra room but like you said. Easily adaptable. Hmmm, def have to think about an upgrade to the larger Nut size down the road. Will keep an eye on the General Store for certain.
Hey yall I am wandering where I can get a finished nut
Give us a call at the store. We may be able to make one for you and send. However, we won’t be able to finalize the nut slot depths for your particular guitar, so you’ll need to have a jeweler file set to set the nut depth as needed.
You can also find nut blanks and the tools needed here: https://www.stewmac.com/
