A Friend Gave Me A Pre-War Banjo!

That would be the Gulf War - Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm
(2 August 1990 - 28 February 1991).

It’s a Carlos 5-string banjo, serial number 15651, with two strings remaining. Made in Korea in the 1970’s to early 1980’s. IMG-7396%20(2) IMG-7397%20(2)

I hate to put Banjo Ben brand strings on it, like putting lipstick on a pig.
It also has some other minor repair issues, so I figure this is my chance to go to luthier school!

Ah so NOT a Gibson!

I too have a Pre War Banjo. My Pre War is a 1920’s Windsor Whirle Emperor Supremus 5 String Banjo with channel concealed 5th string. So I have five tuning pegs on my peghead with the 5th sting in the centre.

There is nothing wrong with putting lipstick on a pig. Just don’t go kissing her. You don’t know where she has been troughing around.

I am thinking once you get some strings on her she wont sound too bad. No not the pig the banjo!

From the pictures, it looks in pretty good shape.
