A couple questions

I’m wondering what would be an approximate length of time to get through all of Ben’s learning tracks. I don’t want to be moving so quickly that I miss some of the details of whatever instrument I’m working on.
instruments simultaneously? I love each of the instruments that I play, and I really want to progress on all of them, but I also know that stretching myself out too thin isn’t good either. If y’all have any suggestions, I’d appreciate it! Thanks a heap!

Hi @cboling Christopher. It’s a great question but a tough one to answer. Let’s assume you are at school and the teacher put’s a really challenging math problem on the black board. How long would you spend on it before giving up knowing that to pass the exam you needed to know the answer?

My guess is you would work through it until you found a solution or sought help.

The good news is @BanjoBen is not teaching math and most of what he teaches is not that difficult if you work through the lessons. Like Leggo all the bits fit together. My advice FWIW is just forget about how long it takes, work through each lesson at your own pace and enjoy the journey. I have been a banjo student since 2008 I took up the banjo at 61 I am now 77 so that is 16 years and I am still learning and enjoy every minute

Chill out, clock watcher’s waste time worrying about how long it takes to complete a task. notime

It will vary greatly between people. A pro musician could fly through them in however long it takes to watch the videos plus some small percentage. Most people will never complete the curriculum and get all the pieces up to speed.

That said, my guess is that it will take the average person about 37. :grinning:

Thank you both! I am quite an impatient person at times, and not being able to do what I really want to do is kind of frustrating! I’ll keep on going, though!

Hi @cboling Christopher I was just like you when I started out. I was so impatient and frustrated at my lack of progress then one day the pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place, it was about that time I found @BanjoBen and you know I just started sailing through the lessons.

Hey my pleasure, Ben was there for me when I was struggling to make progress. Just me giving a little back to the community.

IMHO, it will take the rest of your life. You gotta know the fundamentals, and the truly great players practice them a lot.
It’s been my experience that the greatness of the banjo lies in its ability to release the music that hides within you. Of course you must practice, but after a while it’s somehow not “right” to sound just like the other guy.
It takes as long as it takes. And the journey’s the thing.
And you are well on your way!
