I don’t know if anyone has seen the 2025 Alison Krauss & Union Station show yet, but we just got to see their seventh show of the tour last night in Augusta, GA. It was my first time ever seeing her, and she and her band are everything I’ve ever heard that they are. The hype and fame are definitely well deserved! Not only was the music just spectacular, from her singing to Russell’s to all the instrumentalists; but the show production was at a standard of class and caliber unmatched in bluegrass performances – from dramatic lighting effects, interactive props on stage, a changing video backdrop, and stage hands trading off instruments between each song so flawlessly that you hardly noticed Stuart was playing mandolin a second before and then fiddle a second later. So polished and precise. It was not only sonically but visually and organizationally stunning. The band played over 90 minutes of both hit songs and new ones from the Arcadia album. There were no “down” moments; whether Alison was singing or Russell was, every note was riveting. Both of their voices are just electrifying! The band played some blazing instrumentals throughout the set too to feature Stuart, Ron, and Jerry. A tremendous amount of preparation has been put into this tour; I highly recommend going to support it when it comes near you! I totally see now why AKUS has generations of fans who consider them the gold standard in bluegrass. They still are!
