Bummer. I was looking forward to us singing the National Anthem a capella on the 4th on @BanjoBen deck. Looks like everyone will miss that treat…

Last I heard it’s on for the first week of July

How much does it cost? What do you do there?

It’s the first 2 weekends in July. You can watch Ben’s announcement about the reschedule here.

I THINK the price is $795, but check with @aliciabowman on that, as well as what spots are still available, if any.

Ben likes to keep the camp small and intimate, so spots usually sell out quickly. The reason he’s having 2 camps back to back is that his first camp filled up in 5 minutes from the time it went up for sale.

“What do you do there?”

This is so hard to answer. Technically, you sit in a circle and learn techniques about your instrument, then eat, then learn some more, then eat some more, then gather into groups in the evening and jam. It’s SOOOO much more than that, though. I can honestly say that last years camp was one of the funnest times I’ve ever had in my life. It was loaded with fine folk from all over the country.

Check out the short and long highlight videos from the last camp here.

I’m starting to get nervous. Being in Canada there is no talk of opening any border in the foreseeable future. Now I don’t know if I should cancel my hotel reservation or more importantly, if I’ll be able to attend the camp. I’ll give it another few weeks then I’ll have to make a decision. This sucks.

Hang in there, much can change in a short time! Just know that if there’s any possible way for me to have the camp, it’s happening. The only way I will not have it is if I’m forced not to have it.

The only way I’m not coming is the border between NC and TN is closed.

My fear would be your health insurance won’t cover the trip across the border.

Never thought of that. I better check. Thanks.

I am a first time camper due in July 2. I have been playing rhythm in a local bluegrass
band for the past 8 years. My passion is bluegrass rhythm guitar, Del McCoury style to be exact. My question is, should I spend the time to memorize the basic melodies of the camp song list, or concentrate on the rhythm tracks and all of your videos that relate to bluegrass rhythm?
FYI I am a gold pick member and 74 years old, coming from Texas. I honestly can’t wait.
Thanks

Hey John! So I won’t be the only Texan at camp, huh? Cool!

You definitely want to learn the chords to all the songs, but I highly recommend you learn at least a couple of the lead parts. Every night we all get into groups and just jam. Most of that jamming will revolve around the song list we came up with.

See you at camp!

I can’t wait to meet you! We’re gonna have a BALL! The rhythm is perhaps most important, but please get familiar with the basic melodies of the songs. Try humming the melodies and finding those on your guitar, or use the tabs to learn. Thanks!

working on that too! Thanks

I am so upset right now. I was looking forward to the camp but the boarder between Canada and the US is very unlikely to open as Southern Ontario where I am is still in a state of covid emergency. I had to cancel. I want to be at the front of the line for next year. Hope everyone has a great time.
