Yeah, I’d rather die some other way.
What are y'all up to?
me same. I’m don’t want to ever go that far.
Someone backed out of a special at church, so my pastor asked me to play a song tonight. I didn’t have one prepared… so I learned one this afternoon. Then, I got up there and the feedback was AWFUL. I mean the whole song, and I couldn’t focus. I couldn’t sing in tune.
soooo… next time I’ll probably prepare for more than a few hours, and still blame everything on the sound system anyway…
Oh my…, looks like you had an adventure like I often do - last minute, no prep …
But you survived, and have a plan for next time. Cuz there surely will be a next time… just sayin!
I always tend to crash playing by myself. I feel completely unsupported with no room for error. So I have a bunch of nerves, and then play the guitar solo at an increased speed.
And then I sing in quartet and have literally zero nerves. I’m just weird.
Currently in the middle of a move from Bluffton, SC to Greensboro, NC! Accepted a new job, put our house up for sale, and now my wife, son, two cats and yours truly have been in a Greensboro hotel room for a couple of weeks. So far, so good.
My family and I went to a clothing store yesterday to buy some new shoes for work and while shopping heard someone call out, “Mark?” I thought, “There’s no one here who will know me”, so I tried to turn nonchalantly towards the voice, and big smile emerged across my face. To my surprise, there stood @5-StringPilgrim (Jeffrey Watts) smiling back at me! He lives about 1/2 drive away from where we met. I was so glad to see him and we introduced our wives (and my son). It makes the world just a little bit smaller when things like that happen!
I was in Greensboro Sunday after church doing some shopping and I saw a man that looked really familiar. I said to myself, “that’s Mark Cory, or either his identical twin”. I called his name and to my surprise it was Mark. @xmark Accomplished banjo player and recent Gold Pick Member of the Week. As I met his wife and son I though, what a small wonderful world we live in. I’m already thinking of when we can play some music.
Heading to Charlotte Bluegrass Festival. woo-hoo!
Ok I guess it’s my turn to share a story…
I’m traveling around the south right now playing music and having fun.
So Friday night, I was in Mountain View AR, and I got into a jam outside the Barbeque place, with a bunch of young pickers, (who were hotter than a $2 pistol) and we jammed for a while. Then as they started leaving, Mary Parker (A fiddler who I had recently become friends with) asked me what I was doing the next day. I said nothing, and she asked if I could fill in with their band on banjo for the first set at the Adona BG festival. I said sure, just send me the setlist. Well, I didn’t realize it, but that band was Sylamore Special, the 2021 KSMU Youth in Bluegrass band winners! So, with essentially no rehearsal with the band, and not knowing several of the songs (not to mention never having performed with a banjo before) I went onstage with the best youth band around…
I think I did pretty well, other than completely wrecking a few times on the B parts of Big Mon and Wheel Hoss (neither of which I know on banjo, and I don’t even know Wheel Hoss at all).
It was a whole lot of fun, and now I can say that the first time I ever went to a festival it was as a performer
Was wondering what you were doing driving from Bentonville to Mountainview plus a pit stop by the Gen Store… Nice!
That’s even cooler, & last minute/no prep on top of it!! Congrats & thanx for sharing your adventure!
My sister got married so that was neat we had to do a ton of work lots of DIY. My other sister and I sang during it.
@Dragonslayer…wow, that’s an amazing story…it takes a special sort to accept a challenge like that! Sounds like you arose to the occasion
Scott, you and your sister did a great job! And with a Harper or is it harpist (I really don’t know!)? Looks like a beautiful wedding!
I think it’s harper, as in harpers harping with their harps.
Well that’s my other other sisters former harp teaching. She is the harp professor at WVU, and my harp playing sister is a grad student at University of Michigan. I think they both say harpist.
@oaklymaple, wishes to your sister and her husband for their new journey together in life! Haven’t listened to your song yet but will listen soon.
Wedding pictures pretty much define my life right. My oldest daughter got married back in March after a 1 year 3 month engagement then the first weekend of June my other daughter got engaged and she is scheduled to tie the knot in January of 2022. So for the for I am going to have about 2 years of being Steve Martin in the movie “Father of the Bride” (maybe I need to take up banjo and I will be able to play like Steve Martin when we make it through the 2nd wedding in a 10 month span)
I am so tired of wedding stuff. I hope you can stay sane during it all.
Nope, it’s harpist. I know a few of them
