Martin Vs Martin

This really is a thing. I was shopping for a bluegrass dread and was just trying a bunch to find something that jumped out at me. A sales guy said if I normally sang much to be sure to sing with them. I was shocked at the difference the guitar made. Rosewood is much easier to sing with for me.

On the whole hog vs rosewood: I kind of like Madagascar rosewood to fall in between the two. At least that’s what it does for me.

So your saying Mike, for you its: Mahogany, madagascar rosewood, and then Rosewood,
Madagascar Rosewood sits between, hog and normal rose?

When I was going to bluegrass jams quite a bit, I played a D18GE almost all the time at them, so that would be adirondack on mahogany. That said, I like all sorts of different wood combinations. It’s kind of like my food tastes… I like a variety.

When I got my custom Hoyt guitar, I got it with black walnut. I’ve heard that black walnut sorta splits the difference of hog and rose. I haven’t noticed that for myself necessarily, but I guess I don’t have a very well trained ear lol.

Food is always the best analogy for everything! :joy:
