Hi @FrankieGazaway Home Sweet Home is traditionally played in Drop C tuning. To the best of my knowledge @BanjoBen hasn’t taught any lessons in Drop C. Check the Banjo Hangout TAB Library there are several arrangements
Discuss the Banjo lesson: The Old Spinning Wheel Build-a-Break
Yes @Shaky_loves_banjo I forgot I learned that one about two years back. On reflection I see @BanjoBen has thought several lessons in Drop C. just auld age creeping in I guess since I recorded a few of these.
Got an error message when I tried to access the tabs for this lesson. Is that link expired?
Got it!
Ben, I don’t know if you get enough feedback on your Build a Break lessons, but I know you haven’t received enough from me, and I’d like to correct that. The problem is, I didn’t really know how well they were training my brain until I started applying them at jams.
Honestly, I think I had a form of analysis paralysis. I was so busy trying to perfect my skills before going to a jam that I was depriving myself of the skills I’d build while jamming. These Build a Break lessons have been invaluable to my jamming experience. I’m not scared to take a break on songs I’ve never heard any more.
With that said, here’s my recording of this lesson. I didn’t read a bit of tab to get this down. The first time around is what I picked out by listening to the song a few times. After getting that down, I could hear Alan’s licks and I knew I wanted to learn them, so I listened to that version over and over, and then watched about 10 minutes of video to see how it was being done, but for 95% of the song, I just applied the Build a Break skills to come up with this recording.
By the way, this is a super fun song to play. I like how bouncy it feels at this speed.
@Mark_Rocka This is the first tune I learned in the Key of C albeit a Murphy Henry Arrangement it was also the one I found most comfortable playing at a jam.
I’ve definitely enjoyed learning it. I’m hoping I can convince my jam group to play it.
Dude this means so much to me, thank you! When I first created the build-a-breaks, this is the testimonial & result (your video) I had in mind.
