Mark, that is a great one. I agree with you that conveys a lot about your app. I agree that rings out what your app is about. A lot of times, it takes several iterations of trying different ones out in your mind, before the best one pops into your mind.
Beta testers needed / Play with my app! It's fun!
Your idea of putting “practice” in the name is what helped lead me to the word “trainer.” Once jam and trainer came together, I knew that was it.
Perfect!

I am reminded of the old SNL skit: “More cowbell!!!” I can now do “More spoons!!!”
I gotta tell you, I am LOVING these spoons! I did it as sort of a joke to your joke because it was really easy to implement… but they add so much character to the songs.
OK, new site is live with all of the new samples (including spoons
) at the site’s new home:
Make sure you use the “/app” part because I don’t have a landing page yet. I’m starting work on that now.
Not gonna lie… I love the spoons! Got mine cranked to 11.
Pretty cool. Just tried it out on jamtrainer.com - I turned on Walking Notes and the guitar doesn’t walk or strum - I just hear the bass and the banjo - is this a bug? Also curious which model and coding agent you’re using?
Hey Brent! Which song were you on? Walking notes is something I need to circle back to, so I’m not surprised it’s not right just yet. I’ve been holding off on that until I got the new samples in place. That just happened this morning, so I’ll probably tackle that this weekend.
Just a quick update on the hands free issue……I got a new foot switch today (Joyo) that has space and enter feature. Still couldn’t get the songs to play hands free in the app though. Not sure why it won’t, but thought I would let you know.
FYI the spoons (which are really cool!!) don’t work with the shuffle or swing rhythm.
Yeah, that was on purpose. I had to work out the timing of those on time signatures other than 4/4. I actually got that done today. I just haven’t rolled it out yet.
Turns out, this new host I’m on doesn’t let me know upload new files any time I want. Each new production rollout I do costs me, so I’m trying to make sure I have a lot of new stuff and bug fixes before I push to production.
That’s really interesting. When I’m in a song edit page, I can press Space Bar on my keyboard and the song will Play or Pause. If I use the left and right arrow keys, the songs scroll.
Are you sure of the signals your pedal is sending? If you open a document editor on your device and start pressing pedals, can you tell what keys the pedals are sending?
I’ll have to tinker with it more on my end. I just got the new pedal today, it’s the Joyo JSP-1. The main reason I got it was because it has the space bar and enter feature. My other pedal didn’t have those. I’m using it on my iPad, which may be part of the problem. Tomorrow I’ll give it a shot on my laptop. The pedal will scroll up and down, and turn pages in other apps, but it just won’t start or stop which is what I was looking for. No big deal. I’ll keep messing with it. If I get it working I’ll let you know otherwise I won’t bug you with it anymore. Thanks for your help with it.
You’re not bugging me at all. I want this app to be the best it can be, so when someone tries something in it that I wouldn’t have thought of, I’m genuinely interested in making it work. If it’s something I can change, I’m happy to change it. If it’s just getting your settings right, at least I’ll know the next time I see it come up. So for me, you “bugging” me is a win / win.
I just pushed out an update. Those notes should be walking all over the place now.
Spoons should be working on all but 2/4 time now. I would have it working on that, but I’m not exactly sure of the timing. Gonna have to do some research.
Also many, MANY other little bugs worked out over the last several hours.
I was trying What a Friend We Have In Jesus. But yep you fixed the guitar walking.
so, I just tried it on my laptop, and it works with the wireless pedal. it just won’t work on my ipad. must be something in the ipad settings.
I found the problem. It’s all in how iOS treats the space bar and enter keys. Check out what I found.
“ Windows passes Space/Enter straight to the browser. iOS Safari treats them specially — Space scrolls the page, and Enter only “clicks” a control that’s currently focused. So the start keystroke gets swallowed by iOS instead of reaching the site, while the arrow-key page turns sail through fine.
Things to try, roughly in order:
Cycle the modes. Press the MODE button to step through all 5 and test “start” after each. A mode that sends arrow keys for both functions, or one the site recognizes differently, may get past iOS’s interception.
Tap the start button (or the player area) once on the iPad first, then hit the pedal. iOS often won’t deliver an Enter/Space keypress unless that element already has focus — this is the single most common fix.”
And this may be the fix on my end.
“ Check the site’s own key settings if it has them. Many sheet-music/practice sites let you remap which key starts playback; pick a key (like an arrow or letter) that iOS doesn’t reserve.”
Let me dig in to those pedal setting and see how they’re used and what the options are. The solution might be to create an option for allowing pedal users to choose different key strokes.
I’ll keep you posted.
