Unless the ā€˜cā€™ is part of a ā€˜shā€™ sound as in ā€˜glacierā€™
Or it appears in comparatives and superlatives like ā€˜fancierā€™
And also except when the vowels are sounded as ā€˜eā€™ as in ā€˜seizeā€™
Or ā€˜iā€™ as in ā€˜heightā€™
Or also in ā€˜-ingā€™ inflections ending in ā€˜-eā€™ as in ā€˜cueingā€™
Or in compound words as in ā€˜albeitā€™
Or occasionally in technical words with strong etymological links to their parent languages as in ā€˜cuneiformā€™
Or in other numerous and random exceptions such as weird atheists forfeiting science and reinventing protein at their leisure.

Do you prefer cu-NEE-uh-form, cu-NAY-eh-form or CU-neh-form?

Stop it

Honestly, I had to look the word up.

But this reminded me of something interesting I saw recently regarding how the meaning of something changes based on where the emphasis is.

ā€œI NEVER SAID SHE STOLE MY MONEYā€

I never said she stole my money - Someone else did

I never said she stole my money - I would never rat her out like that

I never said she stole my money - I merely implied she stole my money

I never said she stole my money - I just said someone stole my money

I never said she stole my money - Sheā€™s just taking a really long time to pay it back

I never said she stole my money - She stole someone elseā€™s money

I never said she stole my money - But Iā€™m pretty sure I had the nuclear launch codes on me because Iā€™m a moron and now sheā€™s standing next to the launch controls with an evil grin on her face.

Thatā€™s good! It reminds me of a little Benny Hill thing that has cracked me up for about 40 yearsā€¦
ā€œWhatā€™s that in the roadā€¦ aHEAD?ā€

I was curious, and it does still existā€¦

Benny Hill is not appropriate for all ages, so I didnā€™t embed it here. However, for any who wish to seek it out, search for ā€œbenny hill whatā€™s that in the road aheadā€ on uTube.

There are some exceptions @theChristiancowgirl Hereā€™s a quote from the internet that gives a couple of examples.

ā€œI before e, except after c when the sound is ā€˜ee,ā€™" as one formulation would have it. Or, ā€œI before e except after c, or when sounding like A, as in neighbour or weigh.ā€ But these formulations, too, have their exceptions. ā€œSpeciesā€ or ā€œfinancierā€ for the former, for example, or ā€œbeingā€ or ā€œcounterfeitā€ for the latter.2"

The Scotā€™s have a hard time understanding English at the best of time and we have them as neighbours. Those rules on spelling and grammar used to drive me crazy at school. Now I just write whatever comes into my head and ignore all the rulesā€¦

Check out this fun poem

That sounds right, Ceiylon or Ceilon or Ceylon (The country Sri Lanka) for example.
How about Ceili (kay-lee as in Ceili Rain). OK that is Irish.
Let me seeā€¦ Sceptic (ok at least it is skeptic in American), but soccer

Apparently Honda had a jump on the market, but in a huge oversight they only made one accord that everyone shared :joy::joy:

Haha, I saw that and thought about changing itā€¦then I didnā€™t.

I caught a photo of my dog sleeping with my mandolin and my banjer. I have a feeling she would sound worse than ā€œa bedpan strung with bailing twineā€ if I tried to play her.
