Now that the contest is over, I can finally share this song that’s been stuck in my brain for the last week. The melody is so close to Wreck of the Ol 97.

I had that album years ago and had forgotten that song, that is until he got to the chorus. Ray Stevens is one of my favorites.

Same here. All of the first songs I learned to play on guitar were his. Great memories.

It does! Peeling back the melody even further, finds that the Wreck of the Old 97 is sung to the melody of “The Ship that Never Returned” written much earlier in 1865. So the melody apparently gets used often!
